Having been recently honoured with a professional community service award by Yvon Baker, MPP, Etobicoke Centre, has made me reflect on my journey as a musician. Everything in my life has been about music and the sharing of this wonderful experience.
– John Edward Liddle
From the time I was a child, I was watching parades and concerts with my parents, I knew I wanted to be the person leading the band! After having studied at Canada’s finest performance school, Humber College (Honours Graduate 1982), I had the opportunity to play with the likes of Red Skelton, Burton Cummings, and Matt Dusk, as well as perform with the King of Swing, The Chinese Orchestra, The Toronto Symphony and The Counterpoint Community Orchestra. I have also had the pleasure of studying with the world renown conductor Tak Ng Lai, which led to some great experiences on the podium with many amateur and professional groups including: The Buffalo Philharmonic, The Toronto Symphony, The Etobicoke Symphony Orchestra and The Counterpoint Community Orchestra. I am currently the Artistic Director/Conductor of The Fanfarones Woodwind Dectet, The Etobicoke Community Concert Band, The North York Concert Band, and The Encore Symphonic Concert Band. The wonderful experience that I have had as a conductor, trumpet soloist and player over the last 40 years has filled my life with joy. When this love of music is combined with talent, dedication and hard work, it has made even the most difficult music seem easy. My time with The Counterpoint Community Orchestra (soloist 2014, guest conductor 2015) has been some of the most rewarding in my career. I know that this program will leave you with a spring in your step and a song on your lips, and if I’m lucky, a standing ovation.
