Announcements of another successful event, and reminders about PIP.
1. SOUNDS LIKE A PARK FESTIVAL, JULY 20
Congratulations from our Music Director and Conductor for last night’s concert at Allan Gardens:
To the members: Thank you for such a memorable evening. Both the audience and the organizers were fully entertained. Helen was simply brilliant. Special thanks to Tetsuya and Daniel for organising the program and the logistics of the event. Last but not least, Erik was indispensable in leading the group as our concertmaster.

As Chair, I am adding my thanks to all who participated. When the Board first received TMU’s invitation to participate in a new festival, we accepted it but thought we’d have to send small ensembles. Instead, almost 20 members volunteered to perform an extra concert, plus rehearsals, in the summer and outside! Then, under the guidance of our Music Director, Daniel and Tetsuya put together a terrific programme, including some unusual arrangements of classic works in order to accommodate everyone’s instruments. Helen was wonderful, as we knew she would be; Tetsuya and his talented musical partners provided contrast, with special arrangements of Gershwin and Disney works that were both technically impressive and very popular. So many members worked together to make this a very successful event!
Fortunately, last night it was raining. That meant we were able to perform in the Children’s Conservatory, its glass dome protecting everyone from the rain and lightening, while permitting us to enjoy both music and a storm. Photos attached; more will be posted on the Members' Only portal on our website.
Last night was an important community outreach event for the CCO. The CCO’s volunteer hosts, Robert and Jeff, gave out lots of flyers to potential new audience members. The Festival co-organizers, TMU and the Friends of Allan Gardens, clearly regard the CCO as part of the healthy park activities that still occur in a well-loved city park going through a difficult time; they were thrilled with, and grateful for, our participation in the festival. As a consequence, the Friends of Allan Gardens have given the CCO the use of the Children’s Conservatory whenever our Sunday afternoons may otherwise be rained out. We now have a guaranteed roof - and bathrooms- for the performers and our audience, at least when it rains.
2. PLAYING IN THE PARK CONTINUES - now Rain or Shine!
Never too late to check out Playing in the Park on the remaining Sunday afternoons: July 23, 30, August 6 and 13th, 2:00 to 4:00 Allan Gardens. Potential new musicians are welcome. You need to bring your own music, a stand, and sun protection. Snacks follow the August 13 event so that CCO members can greet each other before the September start of our 40th season.
If you have not already joined, contact Daniel Payne at payne.danny@gmail.com, to get access to the Google form for the PIP music. Music instructions from Daniel:
"I've created a document listing all the players and music selections each week for Playing in the Park. It will be updated weekly, so bookmark the page to keep up to date.
Note that this week, I changed the Handel Concerto Grosso selection to one that requires fewer instruments, as we have a smaller ensemble. We will be using:
Concerto Grosso in A major, HWV 329 (Handel, George Frideric) -scroll to “sheet music”, select “parts” then use the second option - Adolf Hoffmann (1898-1983) - Hallische Händel-Ausgabe, Serie IV: Instrumentalmusik, Band 1
Instrumental musik, Band 14.
I've included Pachelbel's Canon, which we might not play (as I believe Joana's students might be playing it for the mini concert afterwards), but we can keep it on hand for future weeks.”
PIP volunteer hosts still needed for August 6 and 13. Please let Daniel know if you, or one of your family or friends, can be the welcoming face. Gemma will be back at PIP this week. In the meantime, enjoy the attached photo of Gemma and Jaedon at a recent NAO performance celebrating the music of the 1980’s. 3.
