CCO Announcement August 4th 2023

1. PENULTIMATE PLAYING IN THE PARK

This Sunday is the second last Playing in the Park event in Allan Gardens. Remember we can play inside the Children’t Conservatory if it’s raining.

Music links are at the word file

Here’s a description of the music links:

Abdelazer, Z.570 (Purcell, Henry)

  • Scroll down to “Parts”

  • Select : Hilmar Höckner - Wolfenbuttel: Georg Kallmeyer edition (2nd one)

  • The flute plays first? Can the trumpet play violin 3?

Mock Morris (Grainger, Percy)

  • Scroll down to “Arrangements and Transcriptions”

  • Use: New York: G. Schirmer, 1911 edition

Problems printing the music? Email payne.danny@gmail.com and ask for help.

August 13, 2:00 pm - the last of the PIP events will be followed by a picnic for CCO musicians and the audience. Hope to see you there.

3. MEMBERSHIP FOR 2023-’24

The CCO’s 40th Anniversary season starts Monday, September 11 at The 519 Community Centre, 519 Church Street, Toronto, 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Andrew Chung and the Programme Committee have come up with a terrific, celebratory season! And Andrew Lam has found us a great concert venue - Eastminster United Church - with a raised stage and lots of seating.

The 519 is generously providing the CCO with free rehearsal space, as it did for many many years before COVID - a wonderful contribution to the CCO’s bottom line! However, we can’t get into our space there before 7:30 pm and have to leave promptly at 9:30 pm. Further, the Community Centre has no storage space. Please remember to bring your music stand and music every week!

The 519 is not available on Monday, November 6. Instead, we will hold our Annual General Meeting plus our normal rehearsal at Holy Name Parish, 71 Gough Ave. (1 block west of the Pape subway station), from 7:00 to 10:00 pm on November 6. Note the earlier start and later finish times.

Other things you need to know about the upcoming season:

(i) Membership fees increase: $120 in September, $80 in January, $40 in March, with students paying half of that. Membership fees should never prevent interested musicians from making music, however; if paying membership fees causes you undue financial hardship, please speak confidentially to the Chair or email emitchell1727@gmail.com

(ii) Membership fees cannot be paid on Canada Helps. They must be paid by cash or cheque to a Door Volunteer or a CCO Director in person, normally at rehearsals;

(iii) The Door Volunteer at each rehearsal will have membership fee receipts and an attendance sheet, plus new Membership Application forms and new Media Consent forms to be completed by everyone for this new season;

(iv) We encourage potential new members. If you are trying to decide whether or not to join the CCO, the first two rehearsals are “trial” rehearsals. After that, someone will ask you about fee payment;

(v) Face masks are recommended. The CCO no longer monitors vaccination status and expects all musicians to not attend rehearsals if they are ill.

DOOR VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We will need one or more Door Volunteers at every rehearsal, as we had at St. Barnabas rehearsals. Robert and Paul R. have the first couple of weeks covered, but if you or someone you know could volunteer to monitor forms, collect fees, and welcome new members, please contact emitchell1727@gmail.com
