CCO ANNOUNCEMENTS August 10th 2023 - PLAYING IN THE PARK THIS SUNDAY + PICNIC

AUGUST 10. 2023

MESSAGE ABOUT THIS SUNDAY'S PIP PERFORMANCE - note the change in music

"Dear CCO Musicians:

Re: Final PIP Performance Sunday August 13

After an incredibly successful summer of performances, the Playing in the Park season is coming to a close this Sunday August 13th. Special thanks is owed to Matt Canaran and the Friends of Allan Gardens for being so enthusiastically supportive of the initiative and for opening the Children's Conservatory when the weather wasn't accommodating. The audiences have been delighted and appreciative, more so than in other summers; I think that change was due to the CCO’s volunteer hosts. At each performance, our hosts welcomed passersby, answered their questions, and told them about Counterpoint - a special thank you to our volunteer hosts!

For this Sunday:

Chamber Performances: we are pleased to feature two chamber performances:

  • Ventelation - a wind octet featuring Kevin Seymour and friends

  • Elizabeth Brown playing with a wind ensemble performing Dawn Avery's "In Honor of Ghost Dancers.”

  • For more information on both performances view the up-dated posting for the August 13th event on the Playing in the Park Schedule on the CCO website.

Combined Ensemble:(Note that the music selections were updated today):

Music links are available on-line on the CCO website, directly at the word file :https://docs.google.com/document/d/1aRfgD4aHyv_RevGE4b0WcnCn7-afqnrwZ4qcxTr2viQ/edit, and in this Announcement. Please note the changes from the earlier schedule.

Our ensemble performance will then be bolstered by the generous participation of members of Ventelation. Together, we’ll play:

  • Le nozze di Figaro, K.492 Marriage of Figaro - Overture (Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus)

  • scroll down to "Sheet Music," then select “Parts” tab

  • select Franz Wüllner - Leipzig: Breitkopf und Härtel edition (first one in the list)

  • print out the Overture ONLY!

Rehearsal Schedule (2:00 - 3:00 pm): given the large amount of music planned, it is crucial that we begin promptly at 2:00 pm with the downbeat:

  • 2:00 - 2:30 pm: Bach Double Violin Concerto - strings only

  • 2:30 - 3:00 pm: Mozart  Marriage of Figaro - Overture  - all players

Performance Schedule (3:00 start)

  • 3:00 - 3:10 pm: Elizabeth Brown and friends - Dawn Avery's "In Honor of Ghost Dancers"

  • 3:10 - 3:35 pm: Ventelation - Kevin Seymour and friends

  • 3:35 - 3:55 pm: Bach Double Violin Concerto - Gemma Don and Chris Yoshida with CCO strings

  • 3:55 - 4:15 pm: Mozart   Marriage of Figaro - Overture  - CCO and Ventelation combined forces

  • 4:15 pm: CCO picnic - all welcome to share the sandwiches, chips, and cookies that will be provided.

Looking forward to seeing and hearing all of you on Sunday!

Daniel Payne
