1. REHEARSAL JANUARY 30, 2023
As Conductor Andrew Chung announced at last week’s rehearsal, on January 30, 2023, we are rehearsing as a string sectional only. Wind and brass instruments should not attend.
As always, the rehearsal is at 8:00pm, at St. Barnabas Church, 361 Danforth Avenue (Chester subway). Musicians are expected to bring their own music stand and music. The Schumann link is available in the Musicians’ Only portal on the CCO’s website and here it is again: https://imslp.org/wiki/Symphony_No.1%2C_Op.38_(Schumann%2C_Robert). Our librarian, Bob Mitchell, has already distributed copies of “A Stone’s Throw” and will have more available at the rehearsal. These must be returned at or after the March 25 concert, and you will be asked to sign for your copy. If you do not yet have a copy, please contact Bob Mitchell as soon as possible and ask him to bring a part for you robertmitchell@rogers.com.
2. RECORDING OF THE DECEMBER 10 CONCERT
The recording of Counterpoint’s Christmas concert is now available on the Musicians Only portal on the Counterpoint website: ccorchestra.org. (If you have forgotten your password, just follow the links - our Webmaster, Tetsuya Kobayashi will help you with a new one.) The recording is lovely, and it’s terrific to be reminded of being part of such a successful musical event.
3. MEMBERSHIP FEES
We are so pleased to see so many new faces this month! Counterpoint allows for two free trial rehearsals, and we hope you like us! After the trial, there is an expectation to pay membership fees, and to fill out the membership application forms. Right now, the fees for the rest of the season are $75, or $40 for students. Fees should not be a barrier to participating in Counterpoint, however. If paying fees is a hardship for you, you are entitled to ask the Board for a reduction or a waiver. You can do this to a Director in person at rehearsals, or by emailing the Board’s Secretary, Holly Price at hol12jo@sympatico.ca.
Fees can be paid through Canada Helps - find Canada Helps on line, type Counterpoint Community Orchestra into the search box, and it will take you directly to our donation page. You can also pay by cash or cheque to the Door Volunteer at the rehearsal. Counterpoint is a registered charity and fees and donations will receive a charitable donation receipt at tax time.
4. MARCH 25 CONCERT
The Board voted last night to hold the March 25 concert at St. Peter and St. Simon the Apostle Church, 525 Bloor St E, Toronto, ON M4W 1J1.
Rosedale United was a lovely venue for the June and December concerts, very welcoming and generous to Counterpoint. We are grateful to Rosedale for being such a wonderful host. However, the TTC access is awkward, whereas St. Peter and St. Simon is just east of the Sherbourne subway station. Counterpoint used to perform at St. Peter and St. Simon and it also is a lovely, historic, and welcoming Church.
Concert details: “Hello Spring"; 7:30 until 9:15 March 25; short break between A Stone’s Throw and the Schumann Symphony; no food or drink in the Church; musicians and audience to wear masks. (Yes we’ll have more rainbow masks for the musicians.)
Be sure to diarize the Dress Rehearsal on Friday March 24, 7:00pm, a rehearsal that is in addition to the Monday rehearsal that week.
