Short Announcements today - it is a long weekend after all.
The Announcements of May 10 contained a lot of detail for the June 15 Anniversary concert. You can find that edition on the CCO website. Attached is an electronic version of the poster for you to continue to send to your contacts. And tickets can be purchased on line - just go to CCOrchestra.org Tickets.
I. NO CCO REHEARSAL MONDAY MAY 20
It’s a public holiday and the 519 is closed.
II. SUMMER PERFORMANCES IN ALLAN GARDENS PARK?
Since 2021, the CCO has held a summer programme called Playing in the Park, 6 Sunday afternoons concerts in Allan Gardens. This initiative started as a response to the pandemic closures, a way of continuing to make music as a group, and a way of staying in touch with CCO friends and colleagues.
That particular initiative has run its course. However, participating in PIP was a fun, unique and successful venture for the CCO. On a summer Sunday, you knew if
you showed up at the Park that afternoon, our Conductor, Concertmaster, and the string principals would all be there to greet you and run through some great
music under the trees. We also got to hear and appreciate some of our colleagues who performed in their small ensembles. The orchestra gained some musicians
who first learned of the CCO in the park, and joined when our regular season started. We certainly gained some favour among passers-by who enjoyed the serendipity
of strolling in a park and stumbling upon an orchestra! Thanks to everyone who put those three summers of outdoor performances together -
great teamwork and an initiative CCO members can be proud of!
So is it time for a new type of summer programme? Attached is a Survey in which Director Daniel Payne asks CCO members what should replace PIP, if anything.
Options include small ensembles, established or newly formed, taking over the Sunday afternoon time slot, and/or a single, larger outdoor concert where members can
keep their chops up and see their CCO friends by performing a familiar piece together.
Daniel asks that everyone complete and submit the Survey by May 31. Here is the link:

Skyky Youth Charity Concert 2024 - Friday June 7"
Nor is it too late to hear Composer Dustin Peters’ new piece:
"I’m extending an invite to the world premiere of my chamber work Ekphrasis! on May 29th at 12 noon. This concert is part of the Canadian Opera Company Free Recital Series and is held in the Richard Bradshaw Auditorium at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts (corner of Queen West and University Ave.)
Ekphrasis! was written to celebrate the acquisition of a Celesta for the COC orchestra, purchased by W. Bruce C. Bailey, Philanthropist, Collector and Patron of the Arts; Mr. Bailey is also the commissioner of the work, which will be performed by members of the COC orchestra led from the Celesta by Johannes Debus, Music Director of the Canadian Opera Company.
I hope you can make it; arrive in plenty of time to secure a spot as there is no assigned seating. Hope to see you there!
Best, Dustin"
