NOVEMBER 3, 2023 1. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, NOV. 6, 7:00PM: NOTE NEW VENUE AND TIME Venue: Holy Name Parish, 71 Gough Avenue, at the corner of Gough and the Danforth, one block west of the Pape subway station. The entrance is at the side on Gough Avenue. Doors open at 6:45pm. The 519 is not available that evening. November 6: 7:00 to 10:00pm. Rehearsal 7:00pm to 8:00pm; AGM 8:00pm until 8:45pm; rehearsal resumes until 10:00pm. Andrew realizes some musicians cannot make the early start and forgives late arrivers in advance. AGM Documents: Members in Good Standing are those members who had applied and paid by October 6 - they are eligible to vote at the AGM. Other members are welcome to attend and participate. The Members in Good Standing have received documents electronically. A few of them are attached here. There will be only a small number of printed copies available at the AGM, primarily for those who have not received the electronic copies. There will be several motions at the AGM requiring a vote of the Members in Good Standing, including elections of the Directors for the upcoming season. Please check the Membership List of eligible voters that the Door Volunteer will have at the upcoming rehearsal to determine if your name is on it. 2. DECEMBER 9 HOLIDAY CONCERT The posters for the December 9 concert are now printed and will be available at the AGM on Monday. Please circulate and post them widely. The tickets for December 9 will also be available at the AGM. Last week, the Announcements exaggerated the expectation on ticket sales. Everyone is expected to sell at least two tickets. However, we have rented a bigger venue this year, so please sell as many as you can. Our clarinetist, Helen Li, will issue the tickets to you, and accept your money for them. For the first time since March 2020, our holiday concert will include an intermission. We hope to run a couple of fundraisers during the intermission - including offering photos with drag stars for a fee. We also will offer water and cookies - and a donation jar. Please plan to bring some cookies for this event. 3. UPCOMING REHEARSALS: Please rehearse Christmas Singalong for this Monday, as well as bring the other works. The Singalong music is available on the Musicians Only portal on CCOrchestra.org. Please remember to check your name on the Attendance Sheet; both The 519 and the CCO keep track. To see how 'Twas the Night Before Christmas is performed with an orchestra and a narrator, you may enjoy this Youtube performance of the Bill Holcombe score:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCeGi1xJTHE. It was fun to have drag star Fay Slift join our rehearsal rather unexpectedly last week. Please do not attend the rehearsal if you are unwell, and wear a mask for your own protection, if you so chose, or as a courtesy to others if you have recently had a cold or flu. The Door Volunteers have free masks. Advance notice that The 519 has a conflict on November 20 - we have booked Holy Name Parish again for the rehearsal that night, and will be rehearsing with soprano Rebecca Gray. I haven’t checked with Rebecca, but I expect she’d join us if we go out on the Danforth after the rehearsal. 4. APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP If you have attended two or more CCO rehearsals, your application forms and membership fees are due. You can get the forms from the Door Volunteers, and pay them by cheque or cash, or e-transfer your payment to treasurer@ccorchestra.org, with a note saying who the fee payment is for. Fees right now are $120, or $60 for students. If fee payment is causing you financial hardship, please speak to the Chair. Financial hardship should not cause you to miss out on the joy of making music together. 5.
