OCTOBER 20, 2023 1. UPCOMING REHEARSALS: Please remember to check your name on the Attendance Sheet at rehearsals; the CCO needs to know who is attending and The 519 expects us to report our numbers. The Door Volunteers have the Attendance Sheet. The Door Volunteers also have a Membership List. If your name is not on that List, you are not a member in good standing. You cannot vote at the upcoming Annual General Meeting. There can be mistakes on the Membership List; if you have paid your fees and completed the two forms, but your name is not there, please email so that we can figure out what has happened. For our October 23 Rehearsal, our Conductor, Andrew Chung, has said we will rehearse:

  • Die Fledermaus

  • The Nutcracker

  • ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas

  • Laughing Song.

When: Monday October 23, 2023, 7:30pm to 9:30pm. Where: The 519 Community Centre, 519 Church Street, Toronto. Required: Bring your own music and music stand. Music Links: Go to the Musicians Only portal on for links to the music for the December 9 holiday concert. If you really cannot print your part, please contact the CCO’s Librarian, Bob Mitchell, and ask him to bring one for you: To see how "Twas the Night Before Christmas" is performed with an orchestra and a narrator, you may enjoy this Youtube performance of the Bill Holcombe score: (although the CCO version will be more fun since our narrator is drag star Fay Slift.) We will be rehearsing with Soprano (and former CCO violinist) Rebecca Gray on November 20. Maybe a good night to plan to have a holiday drink with other musicians following the rehearsal? Please do not attend the rehearsal if you are unwell, and wear a mask for your own protection, if you so chose, or as a courtesy to others if you have recently had a cold or flu. The Door Volunteers have masks available. 2. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, NOV. 6, 7:00PM: NOTE CHANGE OF VENUE AND TIME Timing: The CCO’s Annual General Meeting will be held during a rehearsal on November 6, 2023. The rehearsal will be longer than usual - from 7;00pm to 10:00pm - so that the AGM does not interfere with our concert preparations. Venue: The 519 had a conflict on November 6 and needed the ballroom. Accordingly, we will be rehearsing at Holy Name Parish, 71 Gough Avenue. The Church is at the corner of Gough and the Danforth, one block west of the Pape subway station. The entrance we will use is at the side on Gough Avenue. Documentation: The AGM Agenda and other documents required by the By-Laws or to be discussed at the AGM will be circulated to the members in good standing late next week, and more the week following. The amount of documentation is pretty extensive. There will be only a small number of printed copies available at the AGM. Please bring your electronic copy, or print your own copies and bring them to the AGM. Non-members, such as new musicians and persons who did not complete the membership requirements by October 6, are welcome to attend the AGM, and can try to get one of the printed copies of the materials - or ask for them in advance from There will be several motions at the AGM requiring a vote of the members in good standing, including elections of the Directors for the upcoming season. Please check the Membership List to determine if your name is on it. If it is missing and you think you should be included, please contact as soon as possible. Nominations from the Floor and New Business: The package of materials will include an Agenda and a list of persons running as Directors. The By-laws permit members to add items as New Business (with a certain amount of support) and to nominate persons to run for Board positions from the floor. 3. APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP If you are musician and have attended two trial CCO rehearsals, your application forms and membership fees are now due. Forms below. Please pay the Door Volunteers at the rehearsal by cash or cheque or send your fees electronically to, with a note saying who the fee payment is for. Both forms and fees can be submitted at the rehearsals to a Door Volunteer. Fees right now are $120, or $60 for students. If fee payment is causing you financial hardship, please speak to the Chair for a reduction or waiver, or email her at Financial hardship should not be a reason to miss out on the joy of making music together. 4. DISTRIBUTING THE “PLEASE JOIN US” POSTER it is not too late to circulate the first of the CCO’s four posters to your friends and families and to post them in your neighbourhood. The poster is below, and is available from the Door Volunteers. This one will be replaced in mid November by one specific to our holiday concert. The hope is that the Please Join Us poster will attract musicians, volunteers, new audience members, and donors by advertising our whole season early. 5.
